Denim Tears x ASICS GEL-MC PLUS™

0

Denim Tears and ASICS announce their first ever collaboration. This two-shoe pack is built on the GEL-MC PLUS™ model, marking the first-time this silhouette has been used as part of an artist collaboration and was brought back from ASICS’ 1990s performance running model.

The ASICS pack was built by Denim Tears founder, Tremaine Emory. The artist-merchant and creative director’s design inspiration came from the ‘Georgia red clay dirt’ in Harlem, Georgia.

“Harlem is a one red light town where both sides of my family are from. I spent every summer in that small town and by the end of the summer, my older brother’s and I sneakers were red from running and playing in the dirt,” said Emory.

“The same red dirt our elders walked, ran, played, and died in. Ultimately, we come up from the red clay and eventually return to it in the end – the in-between is our life.”

Originally created by GEL-LYTE™ III shoe designer, Shigeyuki Mitsui in 1995, the GEL-MC PLUS™ sneaker returns from the ASICS running archive with a reimagined midsole design.

This 90s performance model emphasises the notion of “Motion Control,” featuring its nylon midfoot strap. Technical for its time, it has been redesigned with the midsole with the GEL-CUMULUS® 17 running shoe tooling to evolve the design’s retro aesthetic.

Built with hits of pigskin nubuck and blended with tumbled leather, the design emulates the impact of walking on the Georgia Red Clay through a burnished and brushed midsole.

The Denim Tears x ASICS GEL-MC PLUS™ pack will be available via ASICS.com, Above The Clouds, Highs And Lows and Up There on Friday the 15th October 2021.

Quiccs x adidas Forum Low ‘Stripes Earned’

0

We are excited to introduce to you the latest collaboration project by Quiccs. If you haven’t heard of him, then you better listen up. This talented artist from the Philippines is making his mark once again with global brand powerhouse, adidas.

Juanito ‘Quiccs’ Maiquez, a Filipino toy designer and visual artist, has already had a lot of success with adidas. His ‘Manila Tees’, as well as the ‘Manila Heritage’ colourway for the Harden Vol. 5, which was to celebrate the 123rd Independence Day of the Philippines, proved extremely popular. In this Quiccs x adidas Forum Low collab, he has used his artistry to create a reimagined version of adidas‘ iconic silhouette.

His rendition of the classic adidas sneaker comes after the launch of the FW21 Forum. Those Forum designs celebrated those unafraid to embrace an open attitude to life and redefine the style of tomorrow. Quiccs embodies this spirit, and his Forum marks the first time a Filipino designed an adidas Originals sneaker. This gives Quiccs a space in adidas history as he joins an elite group of global artists and athletes. His passion and work are now immortalised in adidas’ footwear, alongside theirs. Through this collab, he hopes to motivate the next generation of adidas icons to be open and unafraid of new possibilities and experiences.

“Since the beginning of this partnership, I have said how I would like to be able to show and inspire other people that through passion, patience and hard work, one can build their dreams into a reality. ‘Earning my stripes’ was an opportunity I only used to dream of, and now I am living it, and I am honoured to share with my fellow Filipinos – and the rest of the world – an iconic adidas Originals silhouette featuring a design that was a product of my passion and creativity,” says Quiccs.

The striking red stripes represent the ‘Stripes Earned’ through Quiccs’ brand passion. For the artist, this new Forum symbolises the realisation of his lifelong dream of a partnership with adidas. Quiccs takes inspiration from the bestselling Forum 84 Low OG “Blue Thread” and “Pine Green” colourways and infuses the classic look with his own branding. It’s a perfect representation of the Forum’s call to experiment with self-expression and new ideas.

Quiccs fans will quickly spot design elements unique to his artistic DNA, such as his crossbones logo and “TEQ63”. His signature character appears in the reflective 3M™ upper, and as a logo on the gold metal deubré and the back heel.

The tongues feature the words “IT WAS ALL A DREAM” and “01.21.20”. These represent the start of Quiccs’ partnership with adidas and his feeling of gratitude and disbelief in fulfilling his dream.

The straps are interchangeable, a product feature unique to the Forum franchise. The Quiccs Forum straps come in three changeable strap designs, giving its wearers more options for self-expression and style exploration.

The Quiccs x adidas Forum Low ‘Stripes Earned’ will be available on adidas.com.ph, adidas app, and adidas stores in select countries from the 15th of October. Make sure you sign up to our newsletter, so you can stay up to date! For previous adidas features, click here.

The ‘ASICS Collective’ Collaborations Initiative

ASICS is pleased to announce the official launch of the ‘ASICS Collective’ collaborations initiative. A gathering of creatives and like-minded individuals who will elevate the ASICS brand through a series of collaborations through the remainder of 2021 and throughout 2022. The ‘ASICS Collective’ was built by current brand collaborator, Awake NY Founder and Creative Director, Angelo Baque.

While cultivating the ‘ASICS Collective’, Baque turned to some of his closest friends from a variety of creative industries. Baque purposefully selected individuals who bring a specific point of view to their work, and ultimately, to their ASICS sneakers.

The ‘ASICS Collective’ will consist of:

As part of the ‘ASICS Collective’, each inaugural member will release a personally designed sneaker. The releases began earlier this summer with the Angelo Baque x ASICS GEL-KAYANO® 14 “Rebirth of Cool,” Baque’s very first sneaker collaboration.

“This project is an opportunity for me to bring some of my closest friends together and challenge them to design something new, something outside of their general wheelhouse,” Baque said. “Tremaine, Spanto, Jess and Renell are all members of my creative community. They continuously push boundaries in their respective industries and serve as inspirations for me in my own life. I’m excited for everyone to see their ideas come to fruition.”

Continuing the momentum started by Baque’s GEL-KAYANO® 14, Emory will release his own sneaker, the Denim Tears x ASICS GEL-MC PLUS™ on Tuesday, September 28. Will be released in two colourways and will roll out globally following its initial exclusive release on DenimTears.com. For Australia, scheduled release date will be on the 15th of October.

For Spanto, Medrano and GonsalvesASICS sneakers they will be released over the course of 2022. Make sure you sign up to our newsletter, so you can stay up to date! For other ASICS features, click HERE and for sneaker features, click HERE.

The Kickz Stand’s Hit List #40

0

A watershed moment in my life as a collector happened in 2014 when I first moved to Australia. Finally, I lived in a city and amongst people with the same passion for kicks. It was then pretty timely that Asics celebrated the 25th anniversary of the GL3 in the next year. Hard as I tried to cop all of the 12 special releases, I unfortunately came up short each time. I’ve since been able to grab most of them for a steal as Asics slowly fades away from people’s awareness. However, the pair that eludes me is the RED AFEW KOIs. Almost traded for a pair of Vapormax Off Whites but took the cash instead. Hence the desire to cop the ORANGE KOIs as soon as I could. Had to pay resell to snag ’em but well worth the money. Anyone out there with a red in US 9 for a steal, HMU!!!

Huge fan of finding colour matched locations when out shooting sneakers. Often, when I see a bold wall, I’ll head home, grab the matching pairs, and shoot straight back. The concept behind capturing it off foot is simply because I view sneakers as pieces of art. Being able to present the shoe, its shape, it’s colour palette in the simplest of forms appeals greatly to me. Also helps me to use Instagram to create kind of an autobiographical catalogue of my collection. Inspired by John Cusack’s organisational methodology in High Fidelity.

mita sneakers x adidas Consortium EQT CSG 91

0

The EQT CSG 91 (a.k.a. Runner’s High) is the latest collaboration to drop from mita sneakers and adidas premium Consortium line. As the nickname suggests, the concept of these sneakers comes from the euphoria you feel from pushing your limits.

The design draws inspiration from the EQT advertisement series from the early 90’s. It was a low period for adidas, and this was when the company took advice from Peter Moore, the designer behind Air Jordan 1, to change the design process. Moore started the Equipment range, and described it as “everything that’s essential. Nothing that’s not.”

At the time, the adidas EQT series made three major developments in the running cushion, running support and running guidance. Using a mashup of these famous developments as a basis for the EQT CSG 91, these special edition sneakers have a look that tells a story and represents mita sneakers.

The sneakers feature the EQT series icon color ‘Sub Green’ and bold purple statements of different shades. The sneakers have been redesigned with a practical heel tab, and a new cork insole. As usual, the Consortium logo and the adidas EQT logo are on each tongue.
On the back of the heel, they have embroidered the adidas EQT logo and the mita sneakers logo in black.

The mita sneakers x adidas Consortium EQT CSG 91 sneakers are on sale now and is exclusively available from the mita sneakers store.

CARNIVAL x adidas Consortium Running Support 93

0

The first ever adidas collaboration in Thailand, adidas Consortium teams up with CARNIVAL from Bangkok to deliver the ‘CARNIVAL x adidas Consortium EQT Running Support 93’. This collaboration is to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of adidas Equipment (EQT) under “Life Needs Equipment” project.

Established in 2010 in Bangkok, CARNIVAL was founded on the never-ending passion for wearing sneakers. It was inspired by the subculture during the 1990s – 2000s when hip-hop music and skateboards ran the world.

CARNIVAL‘s products combine those unique styles from that era with more fashionable elements by developing new patterns and designs. All CARNIVAL clothing are then specifically designed for those who enjoy matching sneakers to their outfits. So you’ll never get bored of seeing the CARNIVAL crew creating a fashion statement on a daily basis.

The CARNIVAL x adidas Consortium EQT Running Support 93 design plays on the longstanding Consortium mantra, ‘Respect is Mutual’ with the classic Thai greeting ‘Sawasdee’ at the heart of their design inspiration.

The Orchid, Thailand’s national flower provides the colour inspiration of this sneaker collaboration. Its soft and blending gradients of purple merges with a custom Orchid camouflage.

The CARNIVAL x adidas Consortium EQT Running Support 93 dropped on the 18th of September on www.carnivalbkk.com. Follow CARNIVAL on Facebook and Instagram. On your next trip to Thailand, make sure you check out CARNIVAL, click here for all their store locations.

atmos x adidas Consortium EQT Prototype

0

The first ever collaboration between atmos and adidas Consortium has finally happened in the shape of the new model “EQT Prototype atmos,” exclusive to Japan.

For those who aren’t familiar, adidas Consortium is adidas‘ top-of-the-line segment that expresses new ideas and silhouettes, mostly through collaborations and special projects. Their products are only available at limited stores around the world. For us Aussies, you’ll only find three stores nationwide. Their partner store here is Highs and Lows, all located in Western Australia.

Now, back to EQT Prototype atmos. The concept for these sneakers is race photography and sense of speed. The adidas Equipment logo on the side of the shoe has a motion blur effect to make it seem as if it were moving at high speed. These sneakers have a beautiful design with a translucent overlay, tasteful camouflage in yellow and grey, and bold black segments. When you walk, the bright splash of yellow on the sole shows, like a flash of electricity.

Both the brands’ logos are on the heels, in solid black. But the three stripes of adidas are bright yellow, complimenting the camo. As for the adidas Consortium and adidas logos, you’ll find them on the tongues.

This will be a rare model which you can only get at atmos. A few lucky purchasers will even get a book about the history of EQT via lottery.

The EQT Prototype from atmos and adidas Consortium will go on sale at the atmos Shinjuku store and A.T.A.D from Saturday, October 2, 2021.

Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII by Chase Shiel

0

Glenfiddich, the World’s Most Awarded Single Malt Scotch Whisky, has collaborated with custom sneaker artist, Chase Shiel, to create a limited edition luxury sneaker inspired by Glenfiddich‘s newest expression, Grand Cru XXIII – an exclusive whisky matured for 23 years and elegantly finished in rare French cuvée oak casks.

This unexpected creative partnership will see Shiel channel over a decade of experience and expertise in custom sneaker artistry to create a luxurious sneaker that redefines style and reimagines celebration, as does every bottle of Glenfiddich Grand Cru.

Glenfiddich Brand Ambassador Ross Blainey said, “The pairing of sneakers with whisky is very contrary to traditional whisky imagery, and that’s exactly why we did it. Our partnership with Chase reflects Glenfiddich‘s desire to push boundaries in how people perceive and enjoy whisky. We’re launching more than just a boundary pushing whisky in Grand Cru, we’re connecting with a lifestyle.”

But the pairing of sneakers and whisky runs deeper than shared values for the award winning single malt. Demand for high end streetwear amongst the new luxury consumer is growing, driven by millennials who now make up more than half of the world’s luxury sales.

“There’s a lot of similarities between sneaker and whisky collecting, as they’re both functional pieces of artwork,” Blainey explains. “Unlike a painting or sculpture that is created for display, you have to decide on how you want to enjoy your sneaker or whisky. Do you showcase it to everyone and keep it forever, or do you use it every day to experience its core purpose but know that it will eventually run its course. That emotional decision forges a real connection to that piece, whatever you decide.”

With these notions in mind, as part of the collaboration, Glenfiddich and Chase Shiel will launch ‘Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII’, a one-of-a-kind whisky inspired sneaker. Only 23 pairs are on order, each pair representing a year that Grand Cru has spent in barrels aging. A limited number of the custom art pieces will be available to the public for purchase via Glenfiddich.com. The drop date will be announced @glenfiddichwhiskyau with 100% of proceeds from the sale donated to a charity close to Chase Shiel‘s heart.

Chase Shiel explained, “When I designed the custom sneaker I drew from the grandeur of the Glenfiddich Grand Cru XXIII. I focused on the senses of touch, sight and smell to reflect its luxurious nature. Through touch, the smooth and supple black nubuck against the aged diesel black leather. Through sight, we can see the perforated black leather with hints of gold shining through the toe box, collar and tongue, bronzed insoles and a gold embroidered explosion noting Grand Cru’s occasion of celebration. And finally, smell. By using only the best materials I can deliver that distinct aroma that only comes from high-quality leathers.”
